Bangor Science festival (‘Hidden Worlds’) 2015 was a great success with over 750 visitors overall!
On Saturday 14 march, around 60 children, plus parents visited the CBESS stand (Dr Martin Skov, Dr Hilary Ford and Mollie Duggan-Edwards) and enjoyed all our activities and displays, particularly the ‘lego salt marsh’ activity designed by PhD student Cai Ladd.
The children had to protect the lego village from flooding using either the salt marsh or sea wall. The salt marsh provided the service of flood protection for free but once it had been removed the children soon realised they had to spend a lot of their chocolate money (taxes) building a rather imposing lego sea wall to protect the village instead. When given the choice most children chose the ‘free marsh’ option as the ‘no marsh and expensive sea wall’ option cost them all their chocolate money and the lego people didn’t have a very good view of the sea any more!
