Biodiversity & Ecosystem Service Assessment in the Coastal Margin (BESA) – CBESS/MASTS training course
Due to the success of their 2014 pilot programme, NERC will once again be funding a series of development training initiatives for early career researchers in 2015. In co-operation with CBESS and MASTS, this training course will build on the success of last year’s course and take you through the process of planning and conducting a major field campaign in biodiversity and ecosystem service assessment. You will focus on the experimental design, data collection and analysis, logistics and safety in the field.
The course will include on-line introductory materials, followed by a one week residential field course in Morecambe Bay from Sunday 15th – Friday 20th of February 2015. This will involve data collection in the field, seminars and lectures. Salt marsh and mudflat habitats will be the focus of the course, but the knowledge that you gain could be applied in many fieldwork situations.
You will have the opportunity to acquire skills and expertise in sampling, identification of species, ecological appraisal, environmental monitoring and management of marine and coastal environments. Evening seminars by local partners will put your training into a management/policy context.
You will leave with an enhanced knowledge of the field of coastal biodiversity and ecosystems, including interdisciplinary fields, and master the key concepts in their ecological and socio-ecological functioning.
