In February, 30 scientists descended on Morecambe Bay to understand how the microbes, plants and animals that live in salt marshes and mudflats contribute to our natural environment, economy and society. At the end of July, they will return to collect and measure more samples.
The team will look at salt marshes and mudflats, and the role they play in the purification of water, the production of food and the protection of coastlines, as well as the provision of habitat for wildlife and recreational space for people.
The research team will study sites at West Plain, Cartmel Sands and Warton Sands from 29 July until 11 August.
